Skulls and Stones

Hello , having a good weekend ?   hope so.

Today i just want to give a heads up ( no pun intended ) on a health issue regarding horses.

It's pretty well confirmed that a diet of all alfalfa can lead to Stones in the horses stomach. Here in the bay area california Peninsula equine is the Veterinarian center i recommend and they've done quite a bit of study in this area of stones.

Most people around here feed straight alfalfa , with some graining supplemented. Equine senior seems a popular grain.

Several of the horses i've had as clients have been operated on to remove stones. It's always shocked me to think horses can carry around such huge stones in their stomachs.  When i say huge i mean what i say.

So i've included here a photo of just what i'm talking about.  As you guys probably already can tell i'm not pulling any punches with you - i'm straight up giving you what i know without putting "Kids gloves on to baby anyone". If what i'm showing you today is brutally to the point , well that was my objective.  Like i said - no pulled punches here - i want you to have the truth.

So below is a photo of some of these huge stones that come out of horses. There's a skull included in the photo to give a revelant size comparison as well as to drive the point home how serious stones are.

I've personally picked up some of those stones , the one above the skull to the right seemed to weigh about 15 pounds and feel absolutely like granite.

I feel this "Feeding" issue is something worth looking into.

Hope you all have a great weekend .

As usual happy and safe riding and always remember to www.Care4Horses.com

take care.

ps - i've been working on a way to talk about one of the most important issues with shoeing and that's the question of "True Level" without which your horses bones and joints bind and pinch - really not a good thing. I'm putting together some more photos to describe this . Actually getting "Level" correct on the horse takes a trained eye - it's difficult to describe in text alone...

Anything else you guys would like to know about just let me know.

Still currently giving Consultation for any horseshoeing / conformation / behavioral issues at NO COST to you that's Free !!!  right ??    i like free ...     OK - it's on a temporary basis until i run out of time to keep doing so - so hurry up and jump on the opportunity . it's my pleasure .   Just get ahold of me really simply by going to my email address here ------>     John@Care4Horses.com

bye
